Middle School Club:
December 14 -- 7 - 8:20 PM -- final meeting of 2017. We will spend some time evaluating the fall semester and looking ahead to the 2018 winter and spring and beginning to plan and decide on what we want to do over the next months collectively and individually. And we will have a special activity in recognition of it being the last meeting of the year. 8:20 - 8:50 -- Yale Students will have a brief meeting
January 4, 2018 -- Regular meetings resume tonight for the new semester. Any new students interested in the Club are encouraged to get in touch and to join us tonight.
January 18 - -NO MIDDLE SCHOOL MEETING TONIGHT, as I will be away at the Yale Model UN Conference, with 6 of our Middle School Club Members and 6 of our High School Club members, through Sunday night.
Jan. 18 - 21 -- Yale Model UN Conference, in New Haven, CT -- 6 of our middle school club members are attending this conference this year, along with 6 members of the high school club. We received a Breaking Boundaries Scholarship to cover the Conference Fees for the group this year.
January 25 -- (Most likely, will confirm by Jan 11) NO meeting tonight, as Kim has an inescapable work event commitment tonight.
Feb. 1 -- Regular weekly meeting resume this week with no interruptions expected in the foreseeable future on weeks that Massachusetts public schools are in session.
Feb. 11 (date to be confirmed) -- Artic Crisis Conference -- UNAGB in partnership with the Fletcher School at Tufts University put on this one day Introduction to Crisis, no preparation required conference (new crisis scenarios and updates and new roles this year!). Registration will be in early January.
Feb. 22 -- No meeting -- Happy February Vacation Week
March 2 - Innovative Model UN Conference -- This is a special UNAGB Conference where students will not only get to participate in a regular one-day Model UN Conference like usual, but also be given training in negotiation skills by one of the world's leading negotiation organizations which has been successful at leading negotiations in a number of significant political and humanitarian crisis situations around the world, and presented with a crisis scenario which will provide them the opportunity to utilize the negotiation skills they have just been taught as they work to resolve the crisis as part of their committee's work on their topic during the day. This is a unique and great opportunity that is not to be missed. Registration will open in mid or late January and the spaces are very limited so it will be necessary to register right away to ensure that we get spaces for students who want to participate.
April 6 - 8 -- Dartmouth Model UN Conference -- this is a high school Model UN Conference which a few of our Middle School Club members will be attending.
April 7 -- Worcester Model UN Conference by UNAGB -- this is held at Clark University in Worcester and is the major spring conference for the middle school club. Registration will be in early to mid February.
April 29- COMMUN III Conference --This is the Commonwealth School's Model UN Conference which is being put on in partnership with UNAGB and will feature two General Assembly style committees and three crisis committees, one that is a futuristic scifi one and two historical ones. Each committee will have a maximum of 20 delegates and registration is being, therefore limited and is opening in early/mid December, so we are registering a group and will look to have students commit to attendance in January or early February. This is supposed to be a fun and less serious conference in its implementation but still one that is well run and is done well in terms of the educational nature being appropriate and it not being just a social event.
May 2 -- UNAGB RMUN -- This is the UNAGB High School Conference which is this year explicitly open to the "advanced middle school students" in the area. Registration for this conference will most likely be in early March.
Early June -- The ARMUN Day at the State House -- details to be determined
Saturday, April 7 (Likely Date) -- WMUN Conference (Worcester Model UN) -- I don't know if we will attend this this year if this is the date as it will conflict with an all-weekend high school conference at Dartmouth the 6th-8th that we are hoping to get registered for, and I can't be in two places at once, but this is the most likely date for this conference (though the might hold it on March 31st instead)
